The Samsung Tocco family has a new addition. The Samsung S5230 Tocco Lite lacks 3G and Wi-fi, but compared to the original F480 Tocco it's lighter and it has a larger screen, now 3 inches with a higher resolution, gesture lock and handwriting recognition. The interactive TouchWiz interface lets you customise your home screen by dragging and dropping the widgets you use most. The screen also has an accelerometer, turn the phone sideways and the display automatically switches to widescreen landscape mode, great for viewing movies. With a microSD card slot and an excellent video and audio player, the Tocco Lite will keep you entertained on long journeys. It also has stereo Bluetooth, allowing music and sound to be streamed wirelessly with a compatible headset.

The 3.2 megapixel camera has smile detection, which means it will focus and then wait until your subject smiles before taking a picture. The web browser is also very good, although with only GPRS connectivity large pages could be slow to load, so only suitable for occasional use. The Samsung Tocco Lite is a fun phone and excellent value for money. It has a nice interface and good multimedia capabilities.

3.2 Megapixel Camera

Stands for General Packet Radio System. This basically allows you to browse internet websites using your phone. You can use GPRS to received and send Multimedia messages such as a text with a picture.

It is advisable to choose a 3G handset for decent download speeds of videos and pictures rather than GPRS, however GPRS is pretty good for text based information and pictures with lower definition.

Internet

You can browse the Internet using your phone. The speed of browsing is dependent on the handset in question for example if the phone is 3G then your browsing speed will be significantly higher than a GPRS phone.

Memory expandable via MicroSD card

This allows you to expand the phone's memory using MicroSD cards. MicroSD cards are available in various sizes, the most popular being 1GB or 2GB which can hold thousands of songs and hundreds of pictures.

MP3 Player

The phone includes an MP3 player which allows you to play and store music. Works in a similar fashion to normal MP3 players in that you can upload Music onto the phone's memory or onto an external memory stick (size of memory slot dependent on phone). Once the music is loaded you can listen to it either on the phone's speakers or using a pair of headphones that is compatible with the handset.
